Causes: Youth and Children
Rev. Peter Kasirivu, Founder
David Fugoyo, Vice Chancellor
We were first introduced to AfRU over 10 years ago. Over the years, they have grown from a 35 student local Bible college to a recognized University with currently over 600 students. David Fugoyo is someone we’ve known for years, even before he joined ARU. We feel he is doing an excellent job leading the University.
Their graduates are from about nine (9) different countries and are having an incredible impact on their community. The individual stories told by students are very encouraging. Supporting the University is an investment which provides amazing Kingdom return for the lifetime of each graduate and the countless number of people they will impact over their career. We value the University’s self-sustainability model where the majority of their operating costs is covered by tuition.

Mission
We commit ourselves to develop a new generation of Christian leaders whose lives are transformed by rigorous study of Scripture, impassioned love for God, and faithful service to the nations as the body of Christ.
Who we are
Africa Renewal University (originally Gaba Bible Institute) was founded based on Africa’s great need for Christian leaders to rise up to share the compassion of Christ and the gospel of hope in a society that is desperately longing for transformation. 1.23% of Ugandans complete higher education compared to 10% of all Africans. The poor access to quality, low-cost, value-based education is strangling development and perpetuating poverty.
Our vision is to see a transformed Africa, a continent with healthier people living a better quality of life. However, for this to happen Africa must have real servant leaders who are selfless, developmental and transformational. This only comes with a university education that goes beyond head training and covers the heart, character and values embodied by Christ himself. It will take a well-rounded leader to face and tackle the affairs of today's African society.
In January 2007, the school began with 35 students and a commitment to equip Christian leaders for the transformation of society. Today, there are over 600 students from 45 different tribes in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sudan, Eritrea and Kenya who are being equipped as leaders in ministry and community development.
Africa Renewal University is Committed to:
Developing influential leaders who boldly stand against theological err and immorality, understand the African context in which they live, and cultivate long-lasting and self-sustaining ministries.
Sound theology in the context of twenty-first century African culture. Our goal is to ground our students in a Biblical doctrine while balancing it with real ministry to others in the community.
An atmosphere of local church ministry. The emphasis of AfRU is to provide practical training in the context of the local church rather than in academic research. Students are taught to serve the Lord alongside the faculty and pastoral staff in the midst of a real community.
Hands-on Training. At AfRU, we are committed to teaching students to love work while giving them the practical and professional skills they will need to excel in the workplace.
Missions-oriented students with a heart for the lost world around them. Students will have the opportunity to participate in local and cross-cultural missions as well as partner with local and global missionaries through seminars and service opportunities.
An affordable, high quality, and theologically sound education which will not discourage students from being equipped to serve as ministers of the Gospel.
The greatest challenge that Africa faces today is a crisis in leadership! Abuses in power, corruption, political scandals, financial misuse, and theft of natural resources have crippled development. Transforming society with the Gospel begins with equipping leaders across many disciples who are trained from the foundation of biblical principles. Since the expansion of their programs, their community development and IT graduates have been in high demand by employers. Currently they are receiving more requests for graduates than they can supply.
Strategic Goals
To develop unique programs with a Christian worldview embedded into the framework of each class
To build a University campus that provides a model of our Christian worldview in the way we care for creation
To provide practical outlets for students to apply a Christian worldview through serving the community
To become sustainable in providing Christian worldview training through recruiting excellent staff committed to producing quality graduates
To transition supporters to partners and advocates as we collaborate to raise up the next generation of Christian leaders for Africa

Library
Africa Renewal University Library is a growing Organism. From the number of 1000 books in a small room at Gaba Bible Institute, the library has now grown to over 23,000 books in a few years. ARU Library has one of the widest and largest collections of Christian Theological material in Uganda, The best collection of literature on Child Development in East Africa. This was in partnership with Holistic Child Development, a vast database of online journals that enable students to read and learn remotely. We are also in the process of planning to construct a state of the art, high tech multi-story library building.

The challenge that Africa is facing now is that there is only a handful of materials available to those who are eager to learn. At AfRU, our vision is to develop a world-class Theological & Community Program Library for our students.
The Library is developing a unified program of Library-Media Resources and Services. The purpose of this program is to enhance instruction and learning in a manner consistent with the vision and curriculum of Africa Renewal University.
